Follow-up Comment #5, bug #38664 (project denemo):
There is some new code that was patched in to get instrument names from the
installed soundfont. This is failing on windows, and would be a prime suspect
were it not for the fact that the code is never called if you never edit the
staff properties.
If you open a new score type in a few note names and hit play does it come out
at the right octave?
