It's normal enough. Some window managers put a separate icon for every window, others group them under the parent. If you dismiss them (after looking at what's available) they will not re-appear until you request them. The docked ones can also be dismissed (right click and use menu). Is this so alarming? Hmm, I just thought that people opening for the first time would like to see almost everything.
