The reason is that portmidi is supposed to autoconnect to a users midi device. This saves a few key strokes. Maybe that is possible also with alsa and jack midi. Jeremiah ps. I am unsure how to meet the dependencies of ubuntu using the openbuild system. Most of denemos dependencies are in "universe" repository and is not allowed in OBS. It suggests that I can compile against other OBS build targets but it does not seem documented. > > Edgar > > > > > Edgar > > > > > > You could try the binary - this you can install without root > > > > permissions > > > > http://denemo.org/downloads/denemo-1.1.0-0.linux-x86 > > > > > > > > I'm not able to run this myself, but I believe it works fine on other > > > > distros. > > > > > > > > > OK but there is another issue now - when I boot with the MIDI K/B > > > plugged in, it seems to rearrange the audio cards on the computer or > > > something because then I can't produce any sound at all!
