Follow-up Comment #3:

the fix tries to identify svgs that were extracted from the emmentaler font
some years ago and which no longer load at the correct scale/location,
presumably because of changes to librsvg/cairo. It results in fuzzy glyphs,
which is serendipitous as the display lets you know which noteheads are "real"
and which don't necessarily coincide with the true duration.
         
Incidentally, I didn't know these commands existed - usually when I encounter
multiple note heads it is in the context of polyphony and I use the facilities
in Staffs/Voices->Voices to join the stems of different voices.
