If that *is* what you are after, then it certainly is very simple to generate - see the attached where the two staffs use the two different styles mentioned there. To create that I just used Directives->Insert LilyPond to insert the syntax given in the example, e.g. \set shapeNoteStyles = ##(cross triangle fa #f mensural xcircle diamond) and then the noteheads vary with the note name.
