What it says you can do is insert the normal LilyPond syntax for repeats, rather than the rather obscure syntax that the is inserted via the commands that are not hidden. The reason they are hidden is that you have to be careful to close every open repeat otherwise the score will not typeset - it is very disconcerting to a naive user when they start a repeat using that syntax and the LilyPond typesetter immediately complains that there is an error (because, naturally, they haven't provided an end to the repeat yet). But someone who wants to use the LilyPond output as the basis for their further work will prefer the more readable LilyPond syntax...
