I just discovered (late to the party as usual) the Lilypond directive:

\once \hide Notehead

It seems a better way to hide the notehead than the denemo (Print) hide Object
command which creates:

\once \override Staff.NoteHead #'stencil = ##f

Would it be possible to add 'hidden' as a menu item under
Notes/Rests->Notehead Types->Choose Notehead

?
