I was having troubles getting denyhosts to send
notifications of IP's added to hosts.deny as well.  I
could see that hosts.deny was being added to in the
denyhosts log, as well as seeing that the hosts.deny
file was being written to.

After much frustration (I had this working before I
changed Linux ditributions), I found/recalled that my
ISP (Cox) blocks port 25.  I have been able to get it
working, but only by setting it to use the cox smtp
server, in my case, smtp.central.cox.net and port 25.
