The instructions at http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net/mac_os_10_4.txt
say to use /var/log/asl.log and an SSHD_FORMAT_REGEX appropriate to the asl.log entries. I have found that some attempts are not showing up in asl.log that ARE showing up in /var/log/secure.log It seems to work much better when I remove the custom REGEX and use secure.log instead.
