Hi!

I have noticed a strange problem with DenyHosts on both servers which I run.
After two or three weeks of running Denyhosts (as a daemon) it will stop
responding. The process is still there when I do a "ps", but the
synchronization stops working and the logs are not analyzed anymore, so new
bruteforce attempts are not immediately blocked. Also killing the process
doesn't work, I have to issue a "kill -5". In regular operation a "kill" works
fine quits the process.

I also noticed that that issuing a "/etc/init.d/denyhosts stop" always gives me
the message "DenyHosts is not running", even though it is running and when I
try to restart it tells me the that the pid files exists "DenyHosts could not
obtain lock (pid: 21999)
[Errno 17] File exists: '/var/run/denyhosts.pid'" - as expected.

Any ideas?

System is Debian Linux 4.0

Thanks,
Jan
