start derby network class in redhat 9

Dear all ,
i am sorry for posting these error's i have got , i know it might be basics for
derby and java , but i need help in that :)
when i tried to run :
java java org.apache.derby.drda.NetworkServerControl start
from the derby.source/clasess
i get the error
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/derby/drda/NetworkServerControl
also do i need to update my kernel ?
