We do not usually provide implementation details in the documentation, since
these are subject to change. We provide information only on user-visible
behavior. Anyone can check out the source code and examine the implementation
of the feature, however.
I am inclined to close this issue as Will Not Fix, but I'll modify the
documentation if I learn this would be a useful thing to do. Thanks.
