It appears that that section of the Developer's Guide makes claims about CHECK
constraints which Derby does not satisfy. I have logged DERBY-6432 to track
that problem. In addition, similar problems plague generation expressions
(DERBY-6433) so I recommend holding off on this issue until those bugs are
addressed. Thanks.
