You write in DERBY-6425 :

As i know the write cache is enabled by default on windows client and server
systems. We have a lot of applications with derby running at many differnt
sites. I'am afraid to tell all of them to turn the write cache off? Is this
also necessary with other dbms systems like SQLServer, Oracle or DB2?

Seems like these system also recommend this except special designed cache
controls for database disks.
