All in all, I think we can say we rely on the JVM, and use the default, which 
at least with JVMs > 1.4.2 has been TSL. We officially stopped support for 
1.4.2 (which has SSL as default) with 10.10, but really everyone should be off 
that JVM even with older versions of Derby.

I think it is ok to close this issue now.
