Before having formal vote I was wondering if we should announce sunset
of jdk17 also in 10.13? At least
we should discuss. From the following web site it looks like Oracle
has already stopped public updates
of jdk17 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html)
I would predict that there are going to be fewer new releases per year
than was originally expected when
the original vote was taken. Given current work in the community I
would assume earliest time frames
for releases would be something like:
10.12 (late 2015) - currently announcing sunset of jdk16
10.13 (late 2016) - sunsetting jdk16
10.14 (late 2017) - with no vote before 10.12 earliest jdk17 could be
sunsetted (based on agreement to give 1 release notice to users
before sunsetting jvm support).
I am just speculating on dates of releases after 10.12 as they are
completely dependent on volunteers adding enhancements and doing
the releases.
I would be in favor of sunsetting jdk17 in 10.13 also, and announcing
that in the 10.12 release. Following a vote by the community, but
first wanted to see if there is informal feedback to the contrary.
Hi Mike,
I am in favor of sunsetting support for Java 7. Either 10.13 or 10.14
could be the last release family which runs on Java 7.
Thanks,
