Edward Howe edited comment on DERBY-6833 at 9/21/15 12:47 PM:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Question: I'm looking at ContextService.stop(). It looks like the factory
member is accessible after its members are nulled but before the member itself
is nulled. Could this be causing getFactory() to return null rather than throw
a ShutdownException? (I see the fix for DERBY-5088 has a comment expecting
ContextService.getFactory() to possibly fail with a ShutdownException, but not
by returning null.)

> Derby crashed with the following stack trace while running our application's
> integration tests. This is the first time I've seen this, and cannot
> reproduce it. It happened during our application's startup. The embedded
> database had been opened by this point, and some initial queries had been
> executed.
