I was told that there wasn't any changes in thread scheduling between 1.4.2. and 1.5, so I guess it's just that monitors/synchronization have been optimized with more focus on throughput than on fairness. I think synchronization has become cheaper in 1.5, at least Derby runs a lot faster on 1.5 than on 1.4.2 in a multi-client environment when it is CPU bound. But there's always a trade-off... -- Knut Anders
