Wow, nice catch :) Yes, I had logQueryPlan set in my derby.properties file. 
When I removed that, the NPE went away.



I then tried it against 10.1 with logQueryPlan set and it failed there, too.  So 
  I guess this isn't a regression.  I'll make the necessary updates to the Jira 
issue.
