Hi Manjula,

I think this is one of those things where unless someone knows more about this 
it's
just one of those things we live with since it is not specific to Derby.  But 
maybe
someone knows how to fix it and will jump in here.

I tried fiddling with the mime.types file on my host and I could not replicate 
the problem ..
as a matter of fact I could download a *.tar.gz file from my Apache web server 
that is
running on windows to windows just fine :-)

Thanks for information you all provided. So do we have to document this 
browser specific problem and the work around?  or leave it as it is??
