Bernt M. Johnsen commented on DERBY-1465:
-----------------------------------------
1) I am not going to finish the rewrite of NetworkServerControlImpl for 10.3
(DERBY-2412). My approach to keep the internal code an chop the class into
smaller pieces proved not to solve the basic problems. We need to rewrite some
basic mechanisms (e.g. exception handling and reporting) first. I plan to do
the rewrite for the next release.
2) Yes (or at least make it much easier to fix it).
> NetworkServerControl.start() should throw an exception and not just print
> exceptions if the server fails to start

> NetworkServerControl.start() will not throw an exception if another server
> is already running on the same port. I am not sure but think perhaps this
> was changed at one point to accomodate the derby.drda.startNetworkServer
> property so that the embedded server could continue to boot even if the
> network server failed to start, but I think this is wrong for normal usage.
