Yesterday, a number of derby-dev folks had lunch in San Francisco: David
van Couvering, Lars Heill, Rick Hillegas, Myrna van Lunteren, Kathey
Marsden, Mike Matrigali, and Bryan Pendleton. Here are the highlights of
the Derby-related part of our conversation:
Big news: IBM won't be localizing Derby error messages, now that
Cloudscape is no longer available as a standalone product. So the
community needs help localizing future releases (including 10.3).
Release cadence: Kathey thought that she might be willing to
release-manage a maintenance release but she didn't want to tackle
10.3.2 because it would be so close to the announced schedule for 10.4.
Bug-fix cadence: David shared the Netbeans model for maintaining an even
quality level during development: They alternate 4 weeks of feature work
with 1 week of bug fixing.
It was great seeing everybody!
Regards,
-Rick
