Attached is ten_four_patch.diff, which I think is the correct patch
for the 10.4 branch.
My 10.4 build environment doesn't seem to be working right
now; I'm getting dozens of failures in the test suites. So I'm
not going to commit this patch to the 10.4 branch now, but I'm
attaching it in case anybody gets the itch to move the patch to
the 10.4 branch later.
