Your results are exactly what I'd expect, Dag. Thanks!
So maybe the Hudson failure is the result of some weird environmental
glitch. We can wait for another build to find out, I guess, and/or for
Kristian to come back.

recent change. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to reproduce the
failure in my environment, so I dismissed it as an environment issue on
the machine running the build job and didn't investigate it further.
I did both an svn update + build in my current workspace as well as a
fresh checkout +downloaded and installed the same DITA-OT1.1.2.1
mentioned in the error report
(https://hudson.apache.org/hudson/job/Derby-docs/ws/trunk/lib/DITA-OT1.1.2.1_bin-ASL.zip)
For both cases I built successfully target "html" and "pdf", although
the pdf build gives lots of error messages of this kind:
[fop] SEVERE: Ignoring property: column-number=""
(file:/export/home/dag/java/sb/docs/trunk/out/ref/refderby.fo:9561:7773: No conversion
defined ; property:'column-number')
and warnings of this type:
[fop] WARNING: Page 52: Unresolved id reference "rtuntransform25022" found.
