Hi Mike,
I am going to back out this change after I create the 10.8.1 branch so I don't
see that we need to write those additional tests you recommend. By running the
istat tests with this patch applied, I have verified that the default behavior
(for the 10.8 branch) will be istat=off. Thanks.
