Having worked quite a bit on the LOB implementations, I share the concern
raised by Mike regarding large VARCHARs and memory usage.
It seems to me that the code wasn't written to efficiently handle very large
objects from scratch, which shows by the many awkward changes done to support
LOBs without blowing up.
I'm curios about the use-cases for "unlimited" VARCHARs too.
