Thank you Susan,   I re-downloaded (to be absolutely sure) the plugins and installed them into Eclipse 3.1 GA and indeed they seem to work. I added the Derby nature to an existing project and was able to start the Derby network driver. A relief it was just outdated information!   Piet Blok
