I've attached the Review packet for the revision 1.1 of Ch 3 and 4 based on the feedback received from the community. To view the revisions download the file Review-WWD-Ch3-4rv1.1.zip ( http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12325379/Review-WWD-Ch3-4rv1.1.zip ). As requested, more detail and code examples were added to Ch 4, section 2: :The WwdEmbedded program" (original draft ~750 word - rv1.1 ~1325 words). This section is not intended to teach JDBC and Java but rather describe the basic steps to access data in a Derby database using the embedded driver. Please let me know if this is adequate to describe the program to a beginning level programer that is not familair with JAVA or JDBC. If these drafts meet with general approval I hope to submit them for checkin late this week.
Chapter 1 and 2 status. The final revision of Chapters 1 and 2 of WWD were submitted to checkin to SVN (commited to the document repostitory) on April 13 and were committed to the repository on April 14. These chapters are now included in Derby document checkouts and builds.

> I propose starting a new activity-based tutorial document for Derby. The proposed name is "Working With Derby" and I'd like to include it with the next release. The document would target new Derby users. Information would be presented that supports a series of activities designed to be performed after installation. These activities will guide beginners through the basics of using Derby. Attached is a proposal that further describes the initial topics as I see them. I would very much like feedback on all aspects of this proposal from the Derby communities. Please post all feedback to the derby-user maillist, include Working With Derby (WWD for short) in the subject line of all messages on this topic.
