Looking at the information, I see that Java DB 10.4.2.1 was built from
revision 706043 and that the fix for DERBY-3997 went into the repository
for the 10.4 branch as 731599. This means the fix is not included in
Java DB 10.4.2.1.

Hi Geoff,
You can download the Derby 10.4 source from subversion and build it
yourself.
Then you can be sure that you have exactly the fixes that you need.
Here's more information about how to build Derby from source.
If you have trouble, people on the derby-dev list are always glad to help.
