* Well, some of the DTP software I can remember use a reddish
triangle (at least Quark at some time), more or less ressembling an
arrowhead, maybe more often a bit flattened. Scribus uses a
diagonally crossed square, pale red. [1]

* How about a hoovering tooltip, which would show either a message
or the (first) missing lines.

* I'm thinking whether this sign shouldn't be consistant with the
overflow symbol in Calc ? [2]
