I am not a designer but I find aesthetically more pleasant on the right side. But maybe this is because my brain is formatted to start reading from the left. >From a usability perspective it seems more logic to have the recently opened files displayed first and then the option to create a new one. Could the green panel be located on the right for LTR languages and on the left for RTL languages?
