Hello world, > I strongly advice for a simple dialog (variant 1). We make it > over-complicated with functions split over various controls just for sake > of accessibility.
I also tend to prefer variant 1, but this is to be taken with a grain of salt since I'm an able-bodied person AND a developer ( =very clumsy user, bad reference frame :)) The strongest argument for variant 1 from my POV is having all information and data points in one place i.e. * I have an overview of all available commands * as well as UI elements (toolbars, [context] menus) I can assign them to * I can edit command's features (such as, assign keyboard shortcuts) without the need to switch to a new dialog or a tab page There are however 2 points which variant 1 doesn't address, in particular: 1) Events tab i.e. the place where we assign macros to misc events such as opening, closing or printing the document -- this is an important feature for corporate/professional users, especially when they deploy macros massively Events tab doesn't really fit into the concept of variant 1 nicely so it'd either have to become a separate dialog, or a separate top-level tab 2) The visibility of means to edit items of command list, or the structure of menu, toolbar respectively, is rather low. Were there no context menus laid over the mock-ups, I'd likely have to ask myself, how on Earth am I supposed to change those items ... double-click, right-click, something else? Why are there no action buttons? Is activating context menu really supposed to be the only way to do those tasks? It means that the user has to figure out there is SOME context menu in 1st place and that they can use it. > But the dialog is for customization of the UI, a task > rarely done be disabled users.
