Discussion has begun to update the color palette again https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114719, so we have to wait anyway. And the area styles are sometimes surprisingly difficult implemented with a lot of dependencies. In particular the ui tests needs to get updated (see python at my patch) and some values are hardcoded (e.g. shape colors https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=112541). Nevertheless we should consider to update the settings, but gradients are done from my point of view.
