I think the reasoning is well thought and laid out by Heiko. the resizability doesn't seem to be a big problem for me. Except if the floating widget looks extremely small in HiDpi displays? (can't test)
Just one question though: where does the floating Sidebar fit into this? I tried to resize other floating widgets and couldn't, but I can resize the floating Sidebar. And I could see why resizing it could be useful (as opposed to the other floating widgets).
