1. 'All' contains NOW, LATER and DONE
2. 'Dashboard' contains only NOW or NOW and LATER
I think this is very much the way I work for sure. Such a solution would work well for me.
I feel that with open/close-able sections, the Dashboard already has a built-in notion of 'Stuff I need NOW' versus 'Everything else'. I have a feeling that most people will have the LATER section closed as well. Or they're NOW section will be so big that they won't be able to see the LATER section anyway.
May be I'll end up having the DONE section always closed then in a combined "All/Dashboard". I certainly could live with that. FWIW, my NOW list is always kept small and really means NOW (i.e. today or within a couple of days). I keep it short enough that it can fill a half piece of paper. My LATER list is much larger and I keep it out of my view most of the time (not sure it's GTD kosher but that's what I do).
Or to put it another way: I'm not sure that having separate collections in the sidebar is the best affordance for separating: 'Stuff I need now' versus 'Everything else' (workflow-interruption issues I mentioned in my last email).

However, I think over time, an Archive collection would be a nice thing to have (as a way of isolating obsolete stuff.) How hard would that be? to essentially define a 2nd Trash collection.
I don't know how hard it would be but I don't think it's a good idea. I want my archive to be searchable! I don't know how I would be able to use it otherwise. Currently, the only moment I use search (Spotlight is my favorite), is to precisely search my archives...

May be the way I described my workflow confused people: I currently end up deleting lots of stuff when done but that's because it's too much of a pain to keep it around. I'd prefer to archive it somewhere *and* keep it searchable. That seems to be a better solution to me.

Cheers,
- Philippe
