Typical, disappointing Microsoft spin.  Microsoft trails Google in search.  Microsoft, Gates in particular who is the nominal speaker here, defines reality to imply the competition is only ahead in an area which will cease to be relevant.  This is a blatant attempt to undermine public perception about Google's leadership to Microsoft's advantage.

Google vs Microsoft vendor sports aside, I think that there are some valid points here.  The fact that I have Google for the web and Spotlight for my hard disks has not changed my need for tools that help me decide what to pull out of the firehose of my personal information stream.    Search has a valuable role to play, but there is plenty of room for improvement, both around search and around non-search techniques.
