I think up/down arrows for scrolling can be hard to manipulate. For example, how often do people scroll by grabbing the bar as opposed to clicking on the up/down arrows in standard OS scrollbars.

Let's say your sidebar is so full of collections that you can only display 5 events in the preview pane.

An alternative is: we could make it modal.

  9:15  Event title
11:15  Event title
  1:15  Event title
  3:15  Event title
+ 2 more

Clicking on +2 more expands the preview pane to be as tall as is necessary to show all the events.
*** If there are so many events that it takes over the entire sidebar, a standard OS scrollbar is provided.

  9:15  Event title
11:15  Event title
  1:15  Event title
  3:15  Event title
  4:15  Event title
  7:00  Event title
- Minimize

Click Minimize to set it back to the default # of events.

In either case, I think if we allow the preview pane to take up more space, we will probably meet the needs of most people, in particular our main target user: the Hub.

More important than the # of events the preview pane display is the ability to click on an event in the preview pane to navigate to the event in the calendar.

1. Allow the Preview pane to display more events. This can be achieved in several ways, we should do whatever is easiest:

I like that one best. We also need to leave room for an ellipsis (...) line so that the user is not confused by a short list. The next thing would be to add a scroll bar but that would be just too much for such a feature.
How about a "down-arrow" button instead of ellipsis, which could be clicked on to scroll the event list? (Kind of like what happens with long menus.) It might look nicer than adding a scrollbar and use less space.
I like this idea very much. Of course, we also need an "up-arrow" to scroll back up. Both can be put side by side though, so that not cram the UI even more.
