I am new to this list, and this is my first post, so forgive what I am
about to say.

I have been observing this project for several years. In a prior life
I created an early PIM for the Mac called DayMaker, so I have a great
interest in PIMs.

I have been downloading chandler every 6-8 months. I look around, play
with it and delete.

Recently, I purchased a new Intel MacBook, and so i thought it was
time to try again. My mac is the fastest computer I have ever used. It
absolutely blows away my last desktop PC in a way that is almost
frightening.

Chandler is the slowest piece of software I have ever seen. It is
truly frightening. And I dont understand. I have been hoping that
after some period of time the bloat would be stripped away and it
would seem fast.

I was sure, it would be fast on my new mac.

I cant understand how a calendar can be 50mb. I cant understand why
any app in 2006 could be so slow. I am concerned that years after this
effort began that you "cant get there from here".

I read in the archives someone saying, in perhaps a less strident way,
that chandler is slow. Someone else was attempting to say it wasnt
that bad and things like "its only slow the first time you do that".
These statements, in my mind reflect somehow being out of touch.

I repeat. Chandler is the slowest app I have ever used. It feels like
molasses. It makes eclipse seem spritely.

Beyond that, there are, in my mind, some serious UI issues. I am not
ready to comment on this in full because I havent really tried to use
it. But in looking at it, I am confused. Apps in 2006 need to be more
appliance like. I know that you guys are going after serious knowledge
workers (like me) but we are impatient and still dont want to spend
too much time getting comfortable. I am not sure I can spend the time
using this app because the performance feels so bad, but if I do I
might be able to provide some UI feedback.

I hope I am not personally offending anyone, but I fear this project
is seriously off the rails and I would love to see it succeed. I know
back in the early days of PIMs that mitch and I shared a somewhat
similar vision about where they should go. My enthusiasm for the idea
is high. But my opinion of the implementation is not.

I would love to hear any views which could help me understand the
state of this project and perhaps make me think different.
