Another option might be a way to change the app's version string to include extra info, though I'm not so familiar with how the build system produces the version string.
I would be hesitant to change the version string just for the simple reason that it is currently platform agnostic and would love to keep it that way :)
What I did do is update the About Box to display a platform string under the version number - the modified code is attached to bug 6271
