I am worried about the users not knowing too :) . That is why I think that the dropdown list would help showing the user, the options he can choose from. I was thinking that a small symbol to indicate searching and a small down arrow (like in Thunderbird) inside the text widget would help us instead of the current empty text box.
To help users learn the relevant commands, I'd suggest there be two things in the drop down, the command and an icon:
