This is an old conversation from the design list that was never really summarized or resolved. I thought it merited some closure.

I had split this into 2 separate threads since there are 2 distinct user problems here...

+ #1 - Chandler desktop users who want to restore shares and settings easily after deleting the repository.

+ #2 - Allowing desktop users to preserve the list of published as well as subscribed to shares on Cosmo so they can view these easily with the Cosmo UI. http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/scooby-dev/2006-July/ 000620.html

We have decided that we will only be addressing issue #. Morgen has already implemented this by allowing users to save shares and settings to an .ini file (currently available from the Test menu).

We will NOT tackle the ability to give desktop users a more automated way to see all their stuff with the web client, even in the Beta timeframe. Our web client target user is the casual collaborator and not the desktop user accessing their stuff remotely using the Cosmo UI (formerly Scooby).

I will be updating the Sharing spec accordingly.

Cheers,
Sheila
