They are not events per-se, but rather date related content that Google displays:
We call these "web content events" because they let you pull in other content on the web that's related to a date, but not a specific event that you need to attend. Web content events appear as an icon at the top of each day and provide additional information when you hover over them or click on them, depending on how much information is available.

The format is stock VEVENT but with a bunch of X-GOOGLE-CALENDAR-CONTENT-* items tossed in.
