This is also discussed in detail in the stamping spec as well. 


There are a number of communication statuses that we want to track - received, sent, updated, edited, error, draft etc. We will take a first stab at some of these and obviously see what kind of user feedback we get. I was simply trying to eliminate any that we absolutely don't need for Preview. As Bryan pointed out, it's just an icon and doesn't have much development cost.
