To follow up on this issue...
The current decision is to keep proxy support in alpha5. The rationale
is that it blocks a group of users from being able to use Chandler.
(Just yesterday someone showed up in irc with exactly this problem.)

Yes, I wanted to bring this feature up as well. I'm currently assuming
that we want proxy support for Preview, we have two bugs targeted for
