any thoughts on this stuff, design list? vinu isn't asking for formal
design work, but maybe some ideas for a "raw" interface not unlike the
one we have in cosmo today for managing users.

Hi,
I have been thinking about a user interface for group based
management and I am not able to finalize on a nice design :(

Here are the requirements:
Each group can have any number of users or groups.
Each user or group can belong to many groups.
Creation of a group requires a single parameter called group name.

If we just follow the user creation interface, we just need to show a
pop up widget which will contain a single field called the group name.
Once a group is created we can add members to a group using one of
this options:

1. A drag and drop of all the different users and groups
(see http://archive.dojotoolkit.org/nightly/tests/dnd/test_dragcopy.html)
2. A Google suggest kind of interface where you can try to type a
member name and Cosmo will list out the possible member names.
3. Some other kind of drag and drop where multiple members can be
selected and added together.

some variation of drag and drop seems appropriate. the "suggestion
box" thing would probably be useful as an addition to dnd.

Groups can be listed similar to users with just the groupname,
creation time and deletion time. If we go with this view, do we need
to support pagination of groups?

yes.
