I haven't been tracking the byline discussion in detail because I'm still working on triage; I'll be starting on the byline work when triage is done and the byline spec stops changing.... but as I understand it currently, one of these things is supposed to be shown:

- One of several static text labels, followed by an email address picker - Static text containing one of several constructed messages, for example "Created by %(author)s on %(date)s".

If you want some set of conditions to lead to a message with just a date ("Created on %(date)s"), that's no problem.

We don't have any concept of user name, and won't until we have a contacts architecture. For preview, all we have is email address, but of course, we won't have an email address (other than "me") unless the user has configured one, which, as I understand it, isn't required for sharing.

Bryan, once we have exhausted this thread, I will do another write-up to summarize the behavior again. Yes, until we have contacts, we will use EITHER the email address or the default sharing account name as the byline name depending on the type of item you are creating/editing.

P.S. Please don't put spec details in bugs while the spec is still changing.

Understood.

Oh a question for Bryan:

If we don't have any kind of account info, we could just display date information: Created on, Last modified on. Would that complicate things? Or would it be easier to just not have a byline in these cases?
