When Chandler Hub encounters an unexpected error, the user sees a raw Tomcat error. Not all cases; the web UI presents nice errors in many cases. But I'm staring at one now (that's not from the web UI).

It's possible, with some technical Apache voodoo, to catch these errors and display an alternate static page. You've seen these before probably, in clever 404 pages that don't look like the server spit them out.

I'd like to request an additional non-code deliverable -- a static, generic HTML error page -- be produced and incorporated before Preview.

The visual and page design should be consistent with other chandlerproject.org pages. The copy should probably be shortish, ala: "We're sorry, the server has encountered an error. If this problem persists, please contact us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with details so we can track the problem and try to fix it for everyone." I'll volunteer to write the copy if that's desired.

We should figure out who actually implements the static page in HTML; I'll volunteer for that too.

If the idea makes sense, I'd be happy to open a bugzilla ticket for tracking, or Sheila perhaps could take the idea and incorporate it onto her Preview tracking pages.
