Forwarding bug discussion re: Password Protection to the list. Heikki and I are discussing: 1. What it means to Turn off Password Protection, once you've set a Master Password; 2. Verbiage for the File>>Protect password... menu item. It ceases to make sense once you've already set a master password.

Why don't we just call it Password Protection...

...and then that will work in all cases?

As for turing off password protection, I think you should be able to do that if you remember the master password, without losing all your account passwords. There should perhaps be 3 cases: + Reset master password (must know old master password, preserves account passwords) + Turn off password protection (must know old master password, preserves account passwords) + Forgot master password (erases all account passwords - start from scratch)

In the last case, do you also unpublish shares and whatnot? Or do you just stop syncing until the user re-enters their account info?

Subject: [Bug 8697] Set Master Password verbiage...

http://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8697

------- Comment #2 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-04-06 10:33 PST ------- Could you provide the exact text? I have a hard time coming up with titles
other than what they are now.

Set Master Password => Start protecting passwords
Change Master Password => Continue protecting passwords

don't sound very good...

The closest to getting rid of the master password is to reset it. This will clear all passwords as well. The primary reason for this is that if you forget
the master password this is the only way to get the app usable again.

Button order is a separate bug, and we have that issue with many dialogs. We
need a systematic fix, rather than patching each dialog separately.

Btw, the spec is at
http://svn.osafoundation.org/docs/trunk/docs/specs/rel0_7/ Passwords-0.7.html so you should probably put stuff in there. (I just realized it needs a section for
dump and reload.)
