New Threads:
Priscilla started a discussion about File sharing on Chandler Hub
(osaf.us). She basically summarized an IRC discussion that occurred
earlier in the day. We aren't supporting this directly in Preview but
it's possible for users to just put files on Chandler Hub. Priscilla
outlined some reasons why we might want to restrict vs allow this for
Preview. Priscilla also explored some possible solutions with Morgen
and Jared for limiting the users' ability to only put up their
calendar information.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006728.html
+ BCM clarified that users are required to create and account in
order to do this. File access handled the same as if we publish from
the desktop. We don't yet have space limitations.
+ It looks as though most of the legal concerns are addressed in the
Chandler Hub terms of service doc so there is really no point
worrying about restricting people's ability to do this for Preview.
You can certainly share non-calendar data from Chandler.
Sheila sent out a last call for End user documentation for Preview .
This includes info that would go in the readme, on the landing page
and as screen-casts.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006730.html
+ We will start adding these to the bugzilla non-dev tasks lists
+ Pieter is going to follow-up with a further discussion about the
screen-casts.
Pieter started a thread on Preview Countdown Meeting -- website
technologies agenda item. He summarized some of the requirements and
decisions that need to be made in order to move forward on
implementing the chandlerproject.org websites. Some of these like the
blog and wiki won't be changing.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006732.html
+ Pieter was asking for feedback on whether or not we needed to
understand the exact landing page hierarchy to make a call on the
technologies that we use. Specifically around the landing pages.
+ Matthew proposed moving the websites to actual CMS (Drupal or Joomla).
+ Jeremy proposed that we look at picking the technlogies based on
ease of edit, update and adjustment of content. He looked at the pros/
cons of using the wiki for everything. It's easily updated but not
great for templates.
+ Jared proposed that we look at the criteria - number of pages,
frequency of updates and amount of dynamism to help us decide. He
thinks we are looking at a handful of fairly static pages. Dynamic
stuff will be handled on the wiki. He also said to keep in mind that
we only have a couple of months which may be a barrier to adoption
some new technology.
+ Most people seemed to be in favor of having one landing page with
the rest of the information on the wiki.
Mimi forwarded a thread from the Chandler users list - Intelligent
Event Scheduling.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006743.html
+ Alan Mandel had sent an email to the list requesting more
intelligent event scheduling where there could be more granularity
around whether or not a person was busy. There might be some level of
importance or priority associated with the meeting where someone
scheduling could make a call about whether or not that timeslot was
available.
+ We have removed free-busy support in Preview and our scheduling
workflows that we handle are relatively simple. We are designing for
workgroups where this isn't a big problem and have not included the
traditional scheduling accept/decline workflows.
+ Mimi explained that in the short-term we are focussing on sharing,
collaboration and task management.
Mimi sent out a list of updates to the Email and Stamping specs.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006751.htm
Mimi also updated the dashboard spec.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006754.html
Priscilla sent out an email about Cosmo planning for 0.7.
+ All the tasks for the dashboard, admin features and identified
dogfood feedback changes have been entered in bugzilla.
+ There was some discussion about handling recurring events in the
dashboard and keeping this feature in until we define the workflows
we need to have so they are consistent with the desktop.
+ The next step is to swag the items and look at a possible schedule.
+ PPD and dev will work on this via several planning sessions.
Ted forwarded and responded to an email from the Chandler users list
- General Chandler thoughts...
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006769.html
+ He reiterated that the plugins we include are written by non OSAF
staff to test the developer APIs they are core features or demos.
Grant posted about Conflicts on recurring items. While he was working
on recurrence he noticed we hadn't spec'd this out in detail.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006770.html
+ His suggested showing both the master's and occurrence conflicts in
the conflict dialog. The master is basically the first occurrence
before any changes have been made.
+ Grant explained how a conflict in both the master and the
occurrence can happen.
Priscilla sent out a Cosmo dogfood feedback update.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006771.html
+ She has created a wiki page summarizing all this and logged a
number of dogfood bugs.
Heikki sent out some thoughts on Dump & Reload, upgrading.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006782.html
+ He brought up the case where 2 users are sharing a machine and each
have their own profile. He had a number of questions about how things
would work in this case when they tried to upgrade and had some
suggestions.
+ For Preview we are targeting the simple case of one user on a
machine and won't be addressing this in the short-term. The manual
approach we are using accomplishes our goals.
Continued Discussions:
There was some follow-up discussion on the issue of Changing views in
Chandler. There are a number of bugs we need to fix in order to get
the view selector working right, otherwise we may have to remove it.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006723.html
+ John doesn't feel it's particularly difficult to tackle any of
these but we will prioritize this along with everything else we need
to fix during the bug fix phase.
There was further discussion On encrypting passwords.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006729.html
+ Sheila was in favor of adding in this functionality even though
it's technically feature creep. It's simply something we missed.
+ Mimi had some concerns about adding this to the accounts dialog
since we have done quite a bit of work on it and we would have to
rearrange some fields yet again.
+ We agreed to add this as a menu item under the File menu.
Mimi responded to an older thread - Using the Account Browser to
restore a lost Chandler repo
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006739.html
+ Based on some feedback from BCM we logged a number of bugs.
+ Priscilla will triage these bugs with the team and figure out what
will get scheduled for Preview.
Mimi continued the discussion on Adding the filtering checkboxes to
the subscribe dialog
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006741.html
+ Due to some sharing changes made recently there is some
inconsistency between what the sharee and sharer can do.
+ If we are going to let the sharees determine what attributes are
part of the share ie: event status, we need to let them know what the
sharee has shared (checkboxes).
+ Handling this inconsistency is a blocker for Preview even if we
default to whatever the sharee chose to share and remove the
checkboxes on the sharee side.
+ We are going to table this discussion until we get all the main
sharing stuff working and deal with it after the performance work.
Philippe replied to an earlier email about - Clarification on error
icons.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-March/006756.html
+ Philippe clarified the behavior Mimi had added to the spec and to
bug 8555 for this. Most of this was around wording.
+ Mimi made several changes based on his feedback.
