Slowly catching up on the design list summaries.....
New Threads:
Priscilla sent out an email summarizing the Dashboard updates to the
web UI.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006960.html
+ Priscilla and Mimi had done another iteration and made several
updates which are summarized in the following mock-up. http://
wiki.osafoundation.org/Projects/CosmoZeroDotSevenSpec#CurrentMockUp.
+ We received some feedback from someone on the list that the grey
font, buttons etc were hard to read.
+ Mimi and Priscilla are still iterating on the buttons styles and
other stuff.
Mimi sent an email asking Morgen if it's possible to store the
Publisher's time zone on the server.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006962.html
+ When user's publish a calendar from the desktop, we were wondering
if we could somehow store this information so when viewed in the web
UI we can automatically default the view to display in this timezone.
+ Morgen responded that we only publish timezone information for the
individual events and not for the collection as a whole.
+ In this case, we have decided to prompt Cosmo users who are viewing
calendars with a dialog asking them if they want to turn on timezones
in the display.
Morgen sent out a post on Adding the filtering checkboxes to the
subscribe dialog.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006965.html
+ In the course of all the new sharing work, we enhanced the user
experience by giving the sharees the option to select which parameter
they want to share ie: event status, alarms etc. Mimi had some issues
with this since she felt it was important that sharees understand
which options the sharers chose when they published the collection
originally.
+ In the old sharing framework, the sharees would inherit whatever
options the sharer decided to share.
+ Morgen went on to explain all the new flexibility that we have with
the new framework, particularly for read only sharees that want to
make changes to attributes locally.
+ Morgen proposed that we default to all options shared for both
publisher and subscriber. To opt out, you uncheck one of the options.
+ Morgen and Mimi agreed that we would have all the filters checked
except for BCC and Needs Reply.
+ We will also remove the filters from the subscribe dialog and have
the user access this via the manage share dialog instead.
+ There was further dialog about handling read only items which Mimi
has split out to another thread.
Priscilla forwarded proposals for the following bugs - [Bug 8325][Bug
8595] Need feedback to the user (dialog box) when user has added a
collection (or the same collection).
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006971.html
+ They both involve what happens when you subscribe to a collection
you have already subscribed to.
+ We will present the user with a warning dialog but we won't
actually allow the user to subscribe to the collection twice (show it
twice in the drop-down)
Priscilla sent out a summary of all the Cosmo bugs/issues that have
been posted to the design list - Status of design/UI bugs currently
on the design list
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006972.html
Bobby posted a new Cosmo thread about [bug 8595][bug 8325] Renaming
Collections as part of the Subscription Workflow
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006992.html
+ This was about having to do 2 steps when you subscribe to a
collection, then want to rename it.
+ Bobby and BCM proposed popping up a dialog that doesn't go away
until you select a new name and warns you if you are already
subscribed. This addresses a couple of other bugs.
+ Both bugs are still in the queue for 0.7.
Mimi sent out an email with some questions/comments relating to
recent updates to the Cosmo styleguide - [Cosmo] Styleguide Notes +
Follow-up
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006996.html
+ There was a lot of detailed discussion so I will just refer people
to the updated styleguide at http://chandlerproject.org/Journal/
CosmoStyleGuide
Mimi started a new thread for Sharing Triage status + Alarms
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007024.html
+ For Preview we have decided to NOT force the user to sharing alarms
if they have elected to share triage status.
Priscilla sent out the notes for a Cosmo design session on Review
recurring events on the dashboard…
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007026.html
Mimi started a new thread about Editing Read-only items
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007030.html
+ With the new sharing framework, users can make local edits to read-
only items but when they sync, we will detect this as a conflict for
them to be resolved.
+ Mimi was wondering if this was too confusing and if we should try
and prevent edits to read-only items.
Mimi proposed that we Punt the 'Never share' lock feature to Future.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007032.html
+ We have to do extra work to integrate this with the EIM stuff
+ We have no idea if anyhow even uses it.
+ People seemed to be in favor of removing it for Preview so we have
gone ahead and done that.
Continued Discussions:
Sheila followed up on a previous thread - Jump to vs. Go to.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006958.html
+ We left this thread unresolved and Sheila wanted to know if we were
going to go ahead and make the suggested changes by Heikki.
+ Heikki responded that we have already changed the shortcut to Ctrl+G.
+ Sheila is going to log a bug for changing the menu text.
There was further discussion on [Bug8130] What should detail view
display when you switch collections
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006970.html
+ There are 2 proposals: either display basic information about the
collection or a blank detail view.
+ This is currently logged as a P3 bug and until we do a full triage,
we don't know if it will be fixed for Preview yet and which option we
will present.
More discussion on Cosmo bugs - [Bug 8398][Bug 6199] time zone drop
down list on event details is confusing
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006979.html
+ We are deferring any further work on Cosmo timezone functionality
until post-Preview.
Mimi followed up on a previous thread on Specifying the default
sharing account.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006981.html
+ She has updated the email spec with the details
+ We decided to remove the previous notion of default accounts
+ The OOTB accounts are considered the "defaults" and they can't be
deleted. Users may choose not to fill these in which case we will use
the first user-defined account they have filled out to send/receive
email or share.
Some further discussion on an old Cosmo thread - Using the Account
Browser to restore a lost Chandler repo
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/006994.html
+ The discussion was around trying to find a more appropriate name or
terminology for "ticket URL".
+ As far as I can tell from the thread, we didn't end up with a
better alternative.
+ We are going to stick with [pim] for Preview.
Sheila commented on this Cosmo bug - [Bug 7868] The way we disable
timezones for all-day and multi-day events seems
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007010.html
+ We have since punted this and all other timezone bugs to future.
Sheila also commented on the Cosmo bug - [Bug 8130] Making an all day
event no longer all day makes it an any-time event
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007006.html
+ It's important to have Cosmo consistent with the desktop and we are
still planning on fixing this.
Sheila replied to an old Cosmo thread - [Bug 8398][Bug 6199] time
zone drop down list on event details is confusing
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2007-April/007036.html
+ We have since decided to punt all timezone bugs to future so we
aren't going to do this.
